There is a Church, Kind Of, in Paddington in Peru

Back when we were doing this blog weekly, I don’t think I ever wrote about the peculiar ministry highlighted in this sequel, caring for retired bears. The nuns in this film specialize in that kind of ministry. Frankly, it’s better than some ministries in the world today.

Olivia Coleman is such a name, and, spoiler, she is rather suspicious and she’d quit fun in the role.

Antonio Banderas is also fun, though he is, sad to say, too old for the part. I mean, the man is older to me. So though he’s still a good looking bloke, he’s a bit old for catching the attention of Emily Mortimer. But casting these kinds of quirky stars is one of the many things these films do so well. But the best thing about these films is they are so intelligently silly. Sure, they’re made for kids and a kid can follow, but they’re also very smart.

Hugh Bonneville and Mortimer are delightful as Ben Whishaw, once again providing the voice of science. In the film, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Pedro Pascal declares that Paddington 2 is one of the best films ever made. I can’t quite go that far, but these films are great fun.

How Emilia Perez was nominated for Best Picture but this wasn't?
